Indoor shooting ranges are normally privately owned and allow people with gun license in sometimes a set fee is charged or in cases of law enforcement the shooting range is used for target practice to teach law enforce how to immobilize a suspect without severely harming them.  

Outdoor gun ranges are ideal for long distance shooting. These are typically "walled" by sandbags, hills, or manmade barriers.Eye and ear protection are required at gun ranges and most ranges will offer the protection for use, rent, or purchase. In addition, many ranges have rental weapons available in addition to ammunition and targets for sale.
